The restaurant I designed in downtown toronto is under construction.
Should be done in a couple more weeks.
wohoo! so excited...but a little scared too. It's my first restaurant so we shall see how it turns out.
I specified walnut for the majority of the millwork. I LOOOOVE walnut it's such a beautiful wood. It has a distinct grain but isn't overpowering. Also, walnut doesn't have the overpowering red pigment that for example cedar has.

Just wanted to say how much I LOVE Studio Mumbai Architects.
When I was reviewing their project photographs it felt like...like the feeling one gets from putting the right jigsaw piece into a jigsaw puzzle. Their style is something that I understand and when I say 'understand' it's like a feeling in my gut. Their design is very simple, true to its surroundings and incredibly poetic. Also, one of their projects Leiti 360 Resort hit a chord in my heart. The site is very similar to a place I grew up in Pakistan on the foothills of the Himalayan mountains 7,000 feet above sea level. If you have time read up on the history and philosophy of their practice. I'm in love.

So it's been ages and ages since my last post.

I guess because I was so back logged I lost the motivation to start.
But today I went home early because i wasn't feeling well and I'm sitting here at night working on a project because I have a friggin deadline on wed! It's our biggest project. Yea, perfect timing to be sick.

I guess I'll start by posting a shoot I did for a friend of a friend. The friend is Adrianna and her friends (my subjects) are Cait + Tom. It was a lot of fun meeting them for the first time. Tom left for England the day after the shoot so I really wanted to give them some photos they can cry over as they'll be in a long distance relationship for a while. To prep for the shoot Adrianna used her skills as a makeup artist to produce even awesomer pictures.

I've had an awesome past week and so much as happened. I feel so behind in my blogging that it's preventing me from posting.

This past saturday I went to a one day intensive...you can read about it on her blog
The morning comprised of the teaching portion where she went though the basics of photography and used her awesome Samsung flat screen  as her powerpoint screen. As she taught her choco lab Haelee was busy licking everyone moisturizing their arms with slob.
The afternoon was the shooting portion of the day. We shot an amazing couple who were great sports in the windy weather did well under the demands of the 10 photographers there.

here are some shots...

I had the Powerbook G4 for the past 3 years and as I purchased the Apple Care plan i cringed because as a student it was a lot more money than it seems to be now that i'm working. So to take advantage of the extra $400 i spent on the Apple Care i decided that i should take it in to get my screen checked because sometimes when i open the laptop a harmless band would appear, a white band that disappeared after a slight adjustment of the screen. The Genius told me the store would replace the screen free of charge. I thought "awesome, new screen"...a week went by and no word came...2 weeks went by....3 weeks....then on the 4th week I got a phone call....the conversation went something like this:

*ring ring*

me: Hello?
apple: Hi there, I'm so sorry it's taken us so long to get you a new screen. It seems the the screen is unavailable so we have decided to replace your computer with a new Macbook Pro, would that be ok?
me: ....huh?
apple: we'll take your powerbook in as a return and exchange it with the new Macbook Pro.
me: you mean the most current mbp?
apple: yes
me: HELL YEA!!!!!!!!!
apple: lol! I've just made your day haven't I?
me: yes! you're my bestfriend!

how wicked is that?
true story.

on top of that they ALMOST gave me a apple store gift card because the mbp is cheaper than the powerbook that i bought 3 years ago.
That was my saturday morning.
That afternoon I went on an engagement shoot and had a wicked time.

So, i've started jogging this past week and it's been awesome!

I wake up at 5:30am and start running at around 6:00am and get home a little past 6:30am. It's a good 30min jog to start off the day. I purposely set out at 6:00am so I can watch Toronto wake up. I'm a really picky runner because I only like to run in the early hours of the day or at night in the dark. I like solitude when i'm running so don't ask me to run with you :P

Some things I've noticed.
- There are a lot more cars out at 6:00am than i thought.
- Toronto (at least my area) kinda smells.
- Lack of nature: I was talking to my friend in Germany and she says she jogs in the forest. How romantic and awesome does that sound? Jogging in suburbia doesn't quite match up to that.

on another note, I may have a new lens this weekend if negotiations go well!!!! eek! i'm so excited!!!!!!!

no yet ANOTHER note, I'm a true fan of Nick Onken, i absolutely love his style... . He also has a lot of good links and good advice on the whole photography business.
